Dignitaries Praise New Shopping Center Located at Convenient Crossroads
Sycamore Hills Plaza, the highly anticipated shopping center anchored by Whole Foods Market 365, located at 210 Freeway and Base Line Road, is officially open. 27th District of California Congresswoman Judy Chu, Upland Mayor Debbie Stone and Claremont Mayor Opanyi Nasiali, joined developer GPI Companies to cut the ribbon before an estimated crowd of 100 people.
“GPI Companies and LStar had a vision to create a new master-planned community featuring an upscale neighborhood center that inspired wonderful partnerships over five years,” said Lee Wagman, Partner, GPI Companies. “And now that we’ve completed the project, we are here today to thank those partners.”
Wagman spoke first, followed by TR Gregory, Senior Vice President, GPI Companies; Congresswoman Chu; Mayors Stone and Nasiali. After the ribbon-cutting, attendees got a taste of good things to come—gourmet coffee and breakfast pastries, gift bags from Whole Foods Market 365 filled with special donations from Plaza Tenants, entertainment by neo-folk duo Carly and the King and a self- guided tour of the nine-building shopping center.
Developers tailored the mix of tenants to offer both day-to-day convenience to the community and a range of restaurants. Many tenants are opening their first store in the region at Sycamore Hills Plaza. Most prominently, the center is anchored by Whole Foods Market 365—which opened last month, and CVS Pharmacy, slated to arrive soon. The center is nearly 100% leased and will include Orangetheory® Fitness, Supercuts Hair Salon, Union Bank, the UPS Store® and more than a half-dozen casual eateries.
Convenient freeway access and great visibility at the gateway to Claremont & Upland make it an ideal location. The 80,000 square-foot plaza is a chief attraction within the 42-acre Sycamore Hills master-planned community where approximately 320 homes are now under construction.
“Walkability to such a great shopping center will be a big draw,” said Steve Vining, Managing Partner and General Counsel, LStar Ventures. “This area had a real need for quality stores that people depend upon,” he added, “and we are thrilled to provide a superb retail hub that will benefit both residents and commuters in this way.”
